when it comes to gear even in a survival situation in a puggle situation and they get home situation sometimes you only have your EDC tools with you and today I'm gonna show you how you can make use of your EDC knife hi my name is Mike from the survival salute at 80 and as I said before today I'm gonna show you how you can make use out of your ADC blade EDC blades are mostly folding knives there are some guys who prefer to carry a fixed blade with them I from my personal opinion I would prefer a DC pocket knife a folding knife folding knives don't have that advantage of some bigger fixed blade knives that's for sure but what is this small little pocket knife is the only thing you have when you are out in the woods when it comes to shelter building you don't need a pocket knife you can do this all by your hand
well this is not the biggest shelter and well it's not finished yet but to get the glue collect all the stuff all the debris that is around and building a shelter doesn't need any knife at all so shelter building you can do with just your bare hands okay fire building of course you will collect small pieces pick a piece and I think the fattest one you will get is something like this stuff that is laying around all over the place that you can use easily but even this sized stick won't burn until you prepare it or have the right tinder materials at hand and in this case a pocketknife can easily fix the problem by simply doing some feather sticks you are able to create very fine shavings that you can easily ignite with your Farah cm rod or with your lighter so in this case a pocketknife comes in very handy when it comes to bigger tasks for example getting through a stick this size this is a big one there are some techniques that you can use to get the job done let's say this stick here which is hard by the way should be broken up into two pieces if you're not able to break it with your hands so therefore in your knife sure and of course an axe the hatchet would be much better for the job even a small folding saw but I am NOT the guy who carries around a folding saw or a hatchet on the day-to-day Bailey on a day-to-day basis for my daily work but what I have always with me is a pocket knife so now I'm sure you how you can prepare wood with just a tiny little pocket knife one ways to do this so called battening method of course you cannot chop with a pocket knife like you would normally do with the hatchet but you can use a stick to put on the wood through
so look for a good place without any knots without any limbs branches and that's the place we want to go for by simply watching out some pieces you would chew around the wood like a beaver would do once you are around you can break up the limp exactly on this place here if you have some fibers left you can cut them off because cutting is always safer then break it yeah you go the same thing pocket knife for ppattani not the turning cross-grain and taking wedges out but the turning splitted lengthwise and this you really need for doing a bow-drill fire set so if you want to have a bow-drill fire kit to make a fire with the bow drill you need to split up the wood to get a flat surface to dry in a side of the wood to create a fire board stinging nettles are a great resource great food a lot of energy a lot of vitamins a lot of iron really good for your body and stinging nettle is tasting so great you can cut the whole plant with your knife and then scrape off all the outer skin you can build strings out of stinging nettle and so much other stuff but if it comes to collecting a big amount of food a big amount of natural plants nuts whatever a pocket knife comes in really really handy well in autumn you can find walnuts here in Austria they're very common and you find them all over the place the big problem is that some squirrels already have correct this nut open but just for demonstration purpose I can show you how you can open the nut with your pocketknife if it is a good one for example this pocket knife here does have a small little thorn on the back which is normally used and designed as a glass breaking device when it comes to surviving outdoors or even in urban areas make sure you have at least a pocket knife with you well Noah have not killed this big bird but knife and bones can create great great tools that you can use for bushcraft and survival you can build very sharp tips very sharp that you can use for traps weapons and other stuff even for a metal even for a needle or a fishhook you can use bone in this form to create in combination with your knife great great fish hooks for fishing hunting and other purposes therefore you need to have a sharp knife make sure your knife is sharp make sure the knife is in your pocket in this case it's much easier to survive it's easy to dig out roots with your knife but this can damage your knife it's also easy to create a digging stick by simple get a hard stick sharpen it on one side and take with the stick when it comes to wild edibles like mushroom make sure you know this mushroom very well and if you know it simply cut it off clean the dirt and take it with you collecting dry grass is much easier with a knife but simply cut it off at the bottom and you have a big amount to create a good and nice tinder bundle for example a bird's nest like this where you can put your ember in that you have created with your bow drill for this particular video here I have used the kiss Leah supreme duty or ute
which is a nice perfectly made small little folder liner lock which is very strong steel liners very strong g10 handles 440c stainless steel with titanium coating you have a glass breaking device at the back the clip is not ambidextrous it's not it is only able to carry tip up and it's designed for right-handed people so if you are left-handed you may have to drill three holes disassemble all this stuff and make your own way of getting this knife ambidextrous in use but the great great benefit about this knife is that in the back of the knife there is also a bottle opener slash screwdriver included that is not locking but okay for what it is and the big big thing and that's why I have used this knife in this video especially is that this knife is nearly affordable for anybody it's around 43 euros and I have bought it yes I have bought it it's not a present not a gift I've bought it at Klingon belt dot de the link is right there anywhere in the video it's a good good knife it's great as an EDC I've used it now for several weeks to test the knife this knife for me would be a great outdoor slash get home slash back out knife or in an EDC situation this is also a really really good one so I can recommend you this knife it's built like a tank it's affordable and it can withstand some harder use it's easy to clean
because of the see-through construction and it's just a good little knife well I hope you have seen all the advantages of a pocket knife so make sure you have your own pocket knife always sharp and always in your pocket in your pocket I'm Mike from the survivor solidity see you next time
