Solo Winter Overnighter & Trying Out The Dakota Fire Pit
Description
Here I try out the Dakota Fire Pit in some cold weather. I would say it was a interesting thing to try out, but I do not recommend this in my climate. The trip was pretty nice though :)

hello and welcome to Norwegian woods now we had some a few days with some cold weather so everything is a little bit frosted and everything is also a little bit cleaner so I thought it was a good time to go out and spend the night out here in in the forests what I want to do is spend the night underneath my tarp in my sleeping bag I think it's it's going to be a nice nice experience I don't that so many times before probably hundreds of times so yeah it's a little variation from the hammock a boxing have done lately I also want to try to make the kuta fire pit it can be a little bit of a problem because it's everything is frozen but we only had a couple of days with cold weather so I think I managed to get through the icy surface of the sword so we'll see then I have hopefully made all the preparations for my puppet happy to platform I actually had a little problem with my birch bark today because there's some dead birch trees Ronny but you're frozen so the birch bark was really speaking hard to the the tree trunks had beat it a little bit with my with my axe and then I got some pieces off that fire anyway that's the magic of the birch bark brush even when it's solid frozen solid
it's perfect some use twigs it's really dry and the fire pit is sketching nicely it's so easy to make fire in this way in this woods because the there are so much bird park and on this little twist that's dead and it's lying hanging from the bottom of the spruce trees it's all over the place it's it's like the perfect perfect tinder for campfires
it looked like this this fire pit this it's working pretty good I think the whole arm
I put the firewood in it's about maybe like 30 40 centimeters deep there's a little bit a little bit smaller hole next to it with the tunnel in between then I'm pretty much ready for the night just need to make myself some more some proof I would but the fire pit is it's going really good hasn't been any problems at all my shelter for tonight this it's finished it's just from sleeping pad and I have this wool blanket I'll put this on top of the format to give me some more insulation then my sleeping back
now the fire has been going for quite a while and I want to say it's really not the perfect setup for for this kind of environment it's it's actually about minus 6 degrees Celsius it's 20 degrees Fahrenheit and when the when the fire is below the ground level it doesn't radiate nearly as much as I was I've been used to fire on top of the ground I got to say for winter camping the Dakota fire pit is not recommended I I have to say it's it's burning pretty good man must have a little bit of food that worked out quite good but as a heat source and a light source this fire pit is not it's not ideal setup I think it's kind of the opposite of what you would like from a fire in the wintertime I would much rather have this had this fire on top of the ground it may be a little reflector in back of it so it would actually heat me up and give him a little bit more light that would have been perfect but it's an interesting experiment now the time is about half past ten and the temperature is actually rising a little bit earlier tonight it was between 6 & 7 degrees minus negative Celsius and now it's between 3 & 4 so it's getting warmer and the weather forecast said that it would be maybe one degree plus in the morning so maybe we get a little bit of snow as well we'll see
good morning just managed to get out to my sleeping bag it's I think it's one of the hardest things to do and it's sleeping off because it's so it's so nice and warm inside and you know that it's so cold outside so it takes a little bit of encouragement to make myself actually go out so usually I stay inside the sleeping bag and just enjoy the mornings often do that so this is my burn out fire pit I don't know what to say about it because I don't think it's it's really not the right kind of fire to use in this environment not by any means it was pretty good for cooking food and other than that I had worked just the opposite of what I want to fire to do in Norwegian climates because I had a big big pile of really hot coals down here and the sights of the fire pit just kept this heat from from hitting me just what straight up and I didn't get mad get much light around so what I've seen
this fire pit used for his like military operations and stuff like that I guess if you just want to make an easy easy fire and not be seen from areas around it should be perfect yes another reason why this doesn't work so good in especially in this era hard to make the holes and in most of this this forest around here we don't have deep soils the reason I went to this particular spot for this test is Poquoson here there was some soy deep enough to actually dig the did horse and most of the most of the places I go camping in this woods I find it difficult even put up my tent pegs because it's it's a really thin layer of soil above the above the hard rock it's because of
from the last ice age I said when the melt was animating process was going the ice was sliding I love the ground in this areas and was scraping away upon all the soil with it was just the bare rock face left lost ten thousand years since lost there hasn't been enough rotting process and buildup on new soil in many of these places and Mexican digging holes
I guess one advantage with this fire pit is that after you're finished using your fire pit
you can fit all the the stuff back and pretty much steel it up it's not easy like you see I was burning for a few hours last night and the whole actually got a little bit bigger than the piece I took out so I guess some of this soil also burned off so it's it's actually not enough left but I guess in in the summertime when they have more soft soil around you can fill these holes and make this pretty much invisible after after you're finished using it so that's that's a good thing I think the only thing for me to do now is it's a back up and and head for home I had a pretty good little overnighter and it was interesting to test out this back what a fire pit even though it didn't work out all that good in in my environment but you never know these things before you try them out for yourself
you have to see something nice and interesting and cool in a book or on the internet or edit anything you have to actually try to put yourself before you know if it works and if you like it and that's what I did and I didn't like it so I just want to say thank you so much for watching my my videos and hopefully I'll see you again very very soon
